Each day in this week, I am going to post either a one shot or a manga (with a few chapters) that I liked and you can consider reading it or post your comment(s) about it!●ᴥ● (It will mostly be in the genre romance and shoujo)
I will post everything here.
One shot: Katakoi by nanri Jun
Genres: Drama, Romance and Shoujo
At first glance this might seem like your average “girl fall in love with childhood friend” story. However, there is a twist. Because Nimi is unable to confess (to her childhood friend), she ends up re-living the same day. With only 40 pages, the mangaka manages to make the story quite unique.
I personally think the art is nice. It does have some typical shoujo elements, yet manages to have its own traits. At the end, some scenes can be a little confusing, so you might have to re-read them (but you still understands what happens).
Nevertheless, you should definitely check it out! It has only 40 pages with a good story and art! (∪ ◡ ∪)
Collection of short stories: Gekkou Spice by Saitou Ken
Genres: Drama, Fantasy, Historical, Romance, Shoujo
Synopsis taken from mangafox:
1) Kaeru no Saiban or Kaeru Saiban
One day a frog saves the life of a bad witch. The witch promises to grant one of the frog’s wishes… Which is to turn into a beautiful girl! Will our Frog-chan fulfill her dream and fall in love?
2) Kimi ni Tenshi no Shukufuku wo!
Does God exist? A runaway boy accused of thievery takes a surprisingly cooperative nun hostage. With her he learns what it means to have faith and courage.
3) Mori to Oshiro
A princess who has everything one could ever ask for hears a bird singing, “What a pitiful princess.” Why, she asks, was she so pitiful? The bird answers that it is because she does not know, and if she wants to know, then she must go out of her castle.
4) Gekkou Spice
If you sprinkle your whole body with the moonlight-spice and make a wish, it will come true. What is the wish of the black panther chased through the forest by hooligans when it meets the pure bunny Alice?!
What I love about these short stories is that they all have a little twist in them (maybe not so crucial in story 2 and 3). Every story is so cute, heart warming and conveys important lessons/messages!
I will also say that each character is strong in their own way, and differ from typical shoujo characters. The art is quite nice and detailed. Moreover, each story has its own genres. So it does not mean that all of them contains romance (even though the collection is tagged as romance), but I will say that they all contains the fantasy element.
Nonetheless, definitive go check them out! (^ｰ^) My personal favorite is the last one. It is such a cute story about friendship and never judge a book by it’s cover! (●´ω｀●)
One shot: Oubou ookami to akazukin by Marina Umezawa
Genres: Shoujo, romance, slice of life and on-shot
Synopsis taken from mangafox: Hana has a huge complex about her red hair. Boys always criticize it until one day…
So as you might have guessed, this is kinda you typical romance, shoujo one-shot. But why did I choose this one-shot? The answer is simple. What you might not like about yourself, is something other like about you. In this case our protagonist’s red hair. (The rest of this paragraph is kinda a spoiler, though it is predictable) Aitou Hana has a complex about her red hair, because boys bully her because of it and she get the nickname Akazukin, translates to English as little red riding hood. (I personally do not think that is such a bad nickname, I think it is kawaii!) However, the good looking Ookami Takeru, aka wolf, likes her hair. Ofc it is a pity that she was bullied because of her hair, but she should also be proud of having such beautiful and unique hair!
The art is also quite typical for shoujo, romance manga, but I personally think it is lovable. The way the author draws the eyes and hair is so pretty! (▰˘◡˘▰) Moreover, our protagonist do have a little backbone! 😉
So do please check the one-shot out! It is very sweet and carries an important message!
Short manga (5.2 chapters): Furou Kyoudai by Shiwasu Yuki
Genres: Comedy, Horror, Supernatural and Shoujo
The twins Daisuke and Kyouko are always together! Even in the bathtub and the restroom. What is the cause for this?
For readers who do not like horror at all, I am like that too! I just can not watch any horror movies (at all!) ((＞д＜)) So do not avoid this manga because of the genre, it is not that scary! (I, who is a very scaredy cat did not find this scary at all! 😉 )
The manga has a unique plot and also portraits a special and awesome relationship between the siblings (not that they can help it tho)! Not to mention it is also funny!
The art is quite nice and the facial expression to the characters is also hilarious! So definitively check this manga out!
A collection of historic short stories: Edo Karuta by Ame Arare
Genres: Historical, One Shot, Romance, Shoujo
Each story is associated with a karuta card and revolves around the red-light district of Yoshiwara, in Edo.
(Synopsis taken from mangafox)
Okuma is a good-natured, sweet girl, but she is unable to find a husband due to her weight. One day, a samurai defends her from being publicly mocked. Is this samurai her chance to find happiness?
After her father ritually commits suicide, Asagi finds herself in much reduced circumstances. Some of the girls who work with Asagi bully her, and the high-class airs she puts on don’t help the situation. All she wants is a way to get back to the lifestyle to which she was accustomed, but all she has is mistreatment and the company of a strange man trapped under a barrel…
Tama is a lost child, and she’s taken in temporarily by a family who already has a son, Shirou. Tama can’t wait to find her beloved father again. However, finding the place where she belongs may not be so simple for little Tama.
Seiichi is the only one left to protect his princess, Miya. He wants what’s best for her, regardless of their feelings for one another. But can he really tell what that might be?
These four different stories are short, yet contain action, romance and the bond between family. The characters, especially the girls are different. They are strong in their own ways. The art is nice, nothing too stunning, yet nothing too bad.
After finishing the stories, you will feel satisfied, yet wishing there was more! They are all sweet, cute and original! ●‿● My personal favorite is story number 3, but I also has a liking to story number 2! (✿◠‿◠)
Short manga (8 chapters): Watashitachi no Shiawase na jikan by Gong Ji-young and Sahara Mizu
Genres: Drama, Romcane, Seinen, Slice of Life, Tragedy
Synopsis taken from mangafox:
“I have something I don’t want to lose—
So much so that these terrible feelings have grown.”
A pianist who attempted suicide 3 times, Juri, is taken to help her aunt at a prison where murderers who killed indiscriminately are sentenced to death. There, she meets a man named Yuu who took the lives of 3 people. A mother’s antagonism–a brother’s death… Together they embrace the violent rebellion in their hearts caused by the large, deep scars they carry. However, before long, they both embrace an earnest hope in their hearts. “I want to live”…
This manga is an adaptation of a novel by Gong Ji-Young, who is South Korea’s most popular female novelist. The manga is suited for readers who is 15 years old or older!
Watashitachi no Shiawase na jikan is a touching (and sad manga), that conveys a strong message. There can be more to people than meets the eye and there are always two sides of a story.
The art is neat and nice, but sometimes it can be a little simple. There are scenes where the background is not drawn, and it is only white or black. I personally think it helps focusing on the characters and what they are saying. Moreover the facial expressions is well drawn and the art style is very realistic.
During these 8 chapters the author manages to let the characters undergo a development, and they change how they view on life. The characters also shown that there a reason why people do evil deeds.
To conclude: this is a beautiful, realistic manga that carries an important message. It is definitely a tearjerker, so prepare the tissues! ಥ_ಥ
One shot: Narabuna Kiken!!! by Shiraishi Yuki
Genres: Comedy, One Shot, Romance, School Life, Shoujo
Hirano Miku and Hyoudou Natsume do not really get along, they fight all the time! However, one day Natusme ask Miku to pretend to be his girlfriend and she reluctantly agrees. And so we follow as they pretend to be a couple.
This is my all time favorite one-shot! (And that is why I saved it for the last day! (▰˘◡˘▰) ) From the summary the story might look like your typical shoujo, romance story, but believe me it got a little twist at the end!
The art holds traits which is typical for shoujo, but it still very nice and neat! On the other hand, the author manages to portraits the facial expressions to the characters very well! The characters itself might not be that original, but I love Natsume because she is strong willed and has the same height as me! (●´ω｀●) It is rare that main characters are short! >3<
To conclude: this is a very funny and cute one-shot! If you like romance one-shots/manga, you have to check this out! ヾ(＠⌒▽⌒＠)ﾉ
Bonus one shot:
Hitori-tachi by Kanno Aya
Genres: Drama, One Shot, Slice Of Life, Supernatural, Tragedy
Synopsis taken from mangafox: Honey worries about her klutzy dad a great deal… Can she get him to accept a new woman in his life?
Please, please, please do not avoid this one shot because it is labeled as tragedy! It is such an adorable story about the relationship between a daughter and a father! Yes it might be a little sad, but I promise you that after finishing this one shot you will not only not regret reading it, you will also have a smile on your face!
Moreover, the art is also very nice! They author also does a great job drawing the emotions of the characters, it is funny and convincing! (^▽^)
